About Barkley Dogwear

WELCOME TO THE BARKLEY DOGWEAR BOUTIQUE.

Hello! Here you will find handmade dog leads, dog collars, dog harnesses and dog accessories I designed to be both beautiful when worn and sturdy under duress.

DOG HARNESSES

Safer and more comfortable for the dog, a Barkley Dogwear is made from durable webbing. I’ve blended this strong material with padded fabric in varieties of different colours and patterns to produce something durable and beautiful.

They come in five sizes – extra small, small, medium and large and extra large – and are adjustable to suit different sized animals within those categories. More details, including dimensions, can be found on each product page.

I can also custom make them to sizes to fit your dog if necessary.

DOG COLLARS

Unique and adjustable, each handcrafted dog collar is designed to functional and attractive.

PLEASE NOTE: It is the responsibility of the customer to check for signs of wear and tear on leads, collars and harnesses.
We recommend that bandanas and bow ties are only used when your dog is being supervised.

ABOUT BARKLEY DOGWEAR

I decided to get my dog Portia a harness after she slipped her collar while out for a walk one day. We were near a busy road with lots of cars, so it could have been a disaster.

When I started to look for a harness I realised how bland and boring they all were. Yes, you could get different colours but nothing that was both pretty and practical.

I foster rescue dogs looking for new homes as well as having 2 dogs of my own so I've spent lots of time trying to perfect a harness that looks nice as well as being more comfortable and safer for the dog.

I adopted a rescue dog earlier this year, a beautiful Tibetan terrier called Paisley. She'd only ever been kept for breeding and so didn't know any of the home comforts that dogs are normally used to. I've since become involved with fostering dogs from similar circumstances, that are looking for new homes. They're often quite nervous and frightened at first but with patience and some TLC soon begin to get used to their new surroundings and begin to enjoy some home comforts.

Sammy came to me in August of last year as a foster dog. He had been used as a stud dog and had never lived in a house or walked on a lead.

He kept bumping into things and the vet soon diagnosed that he had cataracts and consequently was almost blind.

The cataracts could be removed but the operation would cost over £3000.
As he was only a young dog it was decided that the dog rescue would try to raise the money. After some fund raising and some very generous donations from some very kind people, Sammy had the operation in December.

He had to endure lots of eye drops that he didn't like but it soon changed his life completely.

6 months on and he can run around with the other dogs (without banging his head!). He can now get up and down stairs, which he couldn't do before. If he goes missing I always find him lying on my bed, as he loves his creature comforts...

It became apparent to me, even before his operation that I wouldn't be able to let him be re-homed. He's such a lovely little boy so I've decided to adopt him.

NEW UPDATE

Since then I've fostered a few more dogs and a couple have found new loving forever homes.

2 of them have remained with me - Biggles, a fabulous Cocker spaniel (another ex puppy farm breeding dog), and Peggy - a mixed breed little dog that was advertised online as being for sale.

There are still lots of less fortunate dogs in kennels and foster homes all over the country. We like to make small donations when we can, to contribute to the wonderful work all of the dog rescue charities do.
